Innovations and Benefits
ENEA has many year experience and internationally recognized expertise in design and development of innovative optical components and processes for their industrial production. The physical vapor deposition plants available at ENEA are of the family of very versatile thin film deposition techniques: radio frequency sputtering, thermal and electron gun evaporation, ion beam sputtering. Radio frequency sputtering, for example, is widely used at the industrial level for the manufacturing of numerous types of optical coatings, thanks to its intrinsic properties liek high reliability and suitability for automation.
Use
Components for instrumentation, electronics and optics based on thin film coatings, in particular for applications in extreme conditions like space environment. Coatings on glass, for the protection of artworks. Specific components (e.g. variable filters) for the construction of compact spectrometers or remote sensing instruments.
Applications and ongoing Activities
We offer our expertise for consultancy in the field of design and prototyping of optical coatings and in particular for performing ad hoc tests. Our traditions are as old as the worldwide history of this sector. Feasibility studies have been carried out and interference filters have been created in the context of projects funded by the European Space Agency (ESA), MIUR and the European Commission, as well as in straight collaboration with numerous companies, including SELEX Galileo, RSE, GUZZINI.
