EXPOSURE SCENARIOS AND VALUE CHAIN OF CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES AND NANOMATERIAL

Innovations and Benefits

The REACH Regulation (EC Regulation No. 1907/2006) defines a new regulatory framework for the placing on the market of chemical substances.
The main objective of REACH is to improve knowledge of the risks deriving from existing and new chemical products and, at the same time, to maintain and strengthen the competitiveness and innovative capabilities of the European chemical industry.

Use

Through the registration process envisaged by REACH, the European Union collects more and more complete information on the characteristics of the products placed on the market, on the risks associated with exposure and on the safety measures to be applied. The evaluation process of the substances allows the identification of the most worrying ones (so-called SVHC). Through the authorization process, the substitution of SVHC substances  by the Industry is encouraged, creating a boost to technological innovation and an improvement for human health and the environment.

Applications and ongoing Activities

ENEA, in particular the RISE Laboratory, collaborates institutionally with the MiSE, in charge for the management of the national REACH Helpdesk, providing the industrial system with assistance both in applying the Regulation and in seizing the opportunities for competitive development that the REACH Regulation offers, through the participation of experts in national and international working tables.
