INDUSTRIAL SYMBIOSIS
Innovations and Benefits
An eco-industrial system, in addition to reducing waste production, should maximize the efficient use of waste materials and end-of-life products through the industrial symbiosis and the analysis of industrial metabolism. The laboratory applies the strategy of industrial symbiosis by creating a network between interlocutors and evaluating the opportunities present in the territory; RISE has also developed and implemented the first Industrial Symbiosis Platform in Italy.
Use
The laboratory promotes and implements industrial symbiosis projects (Emilia Romagna and Sicily), by promoting synergies between companies through resource sharing tables, or by stimulating companies (ASI Rieti) to cooperate according to an Eco-industrial Park approach. The laboratory is present in several technical tables to promote the industrial symbiosis and the efficient use of resources; it promotes the SUN (Symbiosis Users Network) network, which gathers operators interested in the development of Industrial Symbiosis in Italy. ENEA, through RISE, is a co-founder member of EUR-ISA (European Industrial Symbiosis Association).
Applications and ongoing Activities
In 2012 he organized the first national conference on the theme of industrial symbiosis at Ecomondo, followed by other editions, the contributions of which were collected in the volume "Experiences of Industrial Symbiosis in Italy".
