Innovations and Benefits
Production of hydrogen, mixtures of hydrogen and methane or biogas with a high methane content (70-80%) through advanced anaerobic digestion processes with the physical separation of the hydrolysis, acidogenesis and hydrogen production phases from the following methanogenesis phase.
Use
Production of biogas for the cogeneration of renewable electricity and heat and / or biomethane for transport or injecting into the natural gas grid from agro-industrial and breeding wastewater, agricultural waste and residues and organic fermentable waste of different nature and origin.
Applications and ongoing Activities
Characterization and enhancement of microbial communities present in the different stages of the anaerobic digestion process.
Development and testing, on laboratory reactors and small-sized pilot plant (50 L), of two-stage conversion processes of dairy and breeding wastewater (ENEA-CRA, Patent number PCT / IB2014 / 059942) and other organic waste into hydrogen, hydrogen and methane mixtures and biogas with high methane content.
