ITALIAN BIOMASS ATLAS
Innovations and Benefits
ENEA developed the Italian Biomass Atlas using open source software and in agreement with the Open Geospatial Consortium standards. The Italian Biomass Atlas shows the distribution and quantity of different types of biomass. Different tools are available to download data (batabase, map, etc.), view historical series, etc.. In the Application Server various services were defined (e.g. WMS, WFS, etc.) for accessing and querying data.
Use
The Italian Biomass Atlas provides to the stakeholders in the biobased industry (i.e. bioenergy-biofuel-biomaterials) innovative decision-support systems for the development of biorefineries integrated in the territory. The Italian Biomass Atlas is an interactive WebGIS system which allows the user to perform analysis of spatial and temporal biomass trends, download data, etc.
Applications and ongoing Activities
The first ENEA’s biomass database was supported by the Italian Ministry of Economic Development (MISE) within the framework of the Program Agreement MISE - ENEA "Censimento del potenziale energetico nazionale delle biomasse":

The last update of the Italian Biomass Atlas was in 2016, within the framework of the research projects such as "Rebiochem - Cluster chimica verde" http://www.novamont.com/rebiochem
