Innovations and Benefits
The innovative membrane separation technology allows to extract polyphenols from highly polluting oil mill wastewater using solvent - and/or reagent - free processes.
Use
Treatment of highly polluting olive mill wastewater, the so-called vegetation water. Recovery and recycling of: polyphenolic compound, remaining organic matter, and water. Use of the extracted polyphenols as antioxidant/antibacterial agents in many food products, for their better quality and conservation, and a longer product shelf-life.
Production of demineralized water to be recycled and reused; energy production to power the system.
Applications and ongoing Activities
Activities are in progress with Genelab s.r.l., providing qualified technical consultancy and other services related to membrane processes, and with PhenoFarm s.r.l., a company specialized in marketing products containing polyphenols obtained with the ENEA-patented process.
