TEST REFERENCE YEAR FOR SOLAR RADIATION
Innovations and Benefits
Hourly solar radiation data (GHI: Global Horizontal Irradiance and DNI: Direct Normal Irradiance) of the Test Reference Year (TRY) for a given location are extracted from georeferenced satellite maps covering the decade 2006-2015. Consequently, it is possible to characterize the site immediately, without waiting for the end of the multi-year field measurements campaign.
Use
Design of solar energy systems for estimating their production potential and defining management and operation modes based on the weather conditions of the site.
Applications and ongoing Activities
- Delivery of typical years to the national technical community operating in the solar energy sector.
- Collection of satellite images from 2016 onwards to increase the statistical data base and improve forecast reliability.
