THERMOFLUIDODYNAMIC AND THERMOMECHANICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF FLUENT HELIUM COMPONENTS

Technology Readiness Level (TRL)

8

Innovations and Benefits

Using the HE-FUS3 experimental plant, it is possible to carry out the characterization of fluent helium components for the ITER and DEMO thermonuclear reactor and for GFR and VHTR fission reactors.
The main operating conditions are listed below:
• Max T: 500 °C
• Max P: 8 MPa
• Max He mass flow rate: 1.4 kg/s
• Total Installed power: 1.5 MW
• Max heating removal capacity: 1.3 MW

Use

Thermofluidodynamic and thermomechanical characterization of fluent Helium components, in the following conditions:
• Cyclical thermal loads
• Stationary conditions
• Analysis in incidental condition with loss of process fluid or thermal shocks

Applications and ongoing Activities

- Characterization tests of HCLBB TBM mock-up
- Beble beds thermal conductivity tests
- Testing of thermal efficiency of heat extraction systems from DEMO Divertor
- Accidental tests HCLL-TBM PbLi loop
- Testing of compact heat exchanger
- Testing of the components of the helium circuit of the ITER reactor
