Innovations and Benefits
The Pd-membrane tubes developed by ENEA are capable of producing ultra-pure hydrogen: in small-scale applications these devices are competitive with alternative technologies.
Use
Production of ultra-pure hydrogen in laboratory applications (hydrogen generators, membrane modules for separating hydrogen and its isotopes).
Applications and ongoing Activities
The Pd-membrane devices have been tested at the ENEA Frascati and Trisaia laboratories for producing pure hydrogen via dehydrogenation reactions of methane, ethanol and biomass. The same devices have been tested via detritiation processes at CEA (Commisariate a l’Energie Atomique) and KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) laboratories.
Three Pd-membrane reactors for detritiation processes have been provided to CEA Cadarache laboratories.
