Innovations and Benefits
ENEA has developed a network of low-cost wireless sensor nodes, which allows non-stop monitoring of perishable products.
Use
On-line monitoring of perishable foodstuffs during storage and transport. Sensor nodes can operate over several days while monitoring a refrigerating room full of food products.
Applications and ongoing Activities
As regards logistics, a number of sensor nodes properly configured with gas and VOC sensors have been developed in order to monitor the state of conservation of perishable food products during transport and storage. These devices have been developed both under PON, National Operative Plan, focusing to a logistics application and under the Electric System Research project aiming to energy saving in the cold industry.
