Stemmed from the international scientific collaboration between UNESCO and ENEA and funded by the Italian Ministry of the Environment (phase 2), Desire-net is a multimedia educational project promoting sustainable development. Actually it is aimed at transferring know-how and technologies to developing countries, from East Europe to Africa, from Turkey to China using e-learning delivered by the most qualified experts in the sector. The cycle of lessons is focused on design and diffusion of renewable energy sources (solar thermal, hydrogen, wind, biomass, geothermal and photovoltaic energy), the Kyoto protocol, sustainable building, new technologies and energy scenarios. The training courses are targeted at three different user classes (decision-makers, designers and operators), and are partially available in English and French, too. In 2008 Desire-net was awarded a prize as the best international cooperation project within the Sustainable Energy Europe (SEE) campaign.
