By converting uncultivated land to farming areas using a limited water amount and renewable energy sources, this project by the NGO Green Cross Italy (GCIt), funded by MAECI-DGCS through the EU call for applications to support Civil Society Organisations and with ENEA’s technical support, is aimed at encouraging sustainable and stable development in environmental and economic terms in the Departments of Dagana (Saint Louis Region) and Kanel (Matam Region), located in river Senegal’s valley.

ENEA Activities:

  • design and technical support to install two 100kWp and 50 kWp photovoltaic plants to power drip irrigation systems by using water from river Senegal and some wells
  • development of a model allowing the energy and economic dimensioning of rural off-grid hybrid photovoltaic-diesel systems
  • technical support to provide the University of Saint Louis with on-site training on solar technologies
  • technical support for rural electrification of schools in the Region’s villages
