PROMOTING ACCESS TO SAFE WATER AND BASIC SANITATION FOR KARUNGU'S POPULATION

Clean water and sanitation

For achieving the objectives

Agenda 2030

The Project by the NGO Salute e Sviluppo (SeS), funded by MAECI-DGCS through the EU call for applications to support Civil Society Organisations and with ENEA’s technical support, provides for the realization of a water system facilitating daily access to drinking water for the populations of Karungu, Sori and Gunga. The system is composed of a pumping station that pumps water from Victoria Lake, a water treatment station, an aqueduct, kiosks for “improved” water distribution, fountains inside schools. An ozonation treatment plant powered by photovoltaic panels ensures germless water.

Recipient country:

Kenya

Periodo:

2015-2017

ENEA Activities:

  • Technical consulting and training to install and ensure the correct operation, use and maintenance of the ozonation treatment plants
  • Training courses to sanitary and local administration staff on ozonation treatment systems
  • Sampling campaign in the areas of interest to ensure the ozonation treatment system is efficient, and relevant tests performed at the ENEA Casaccia research centre on the ozonation treatment plant model available on the market and used in Karungu
