Under the broader Italian cooperation project on “Integrated management of solid wastes in Baalbeck”, the Directorate General for Development Cooperation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs entrusted ENEA with the task of strengthening the institutional relations with the Lebanese Ministry of the Environment for air quality monitoring, especially as to pollution from POPs (persistent organic pollutants).

ENEA Activities:

  • Technical and scientific support to the Lebanese Ministry of the Environment in the implementation of Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants through the definition of a pilot programme for investments in pollution reduction in Lebanon
  • Training to operators from the Lebanese Ministry of the Environment on waste management and disposal
  • Development and implementation of a management plan for air quality using a specific atmospheric modelling system, over Lebanon, developed by ENEA.
