Terna, the company that operates the Italian national electricity grid, and ENEA, the Italian agency for new technologies, energy and sustainable economic development, have launched a collaboration on research aimed at increasing the security and resilience of the high-voltage grid. Through the use of innovative technologies, such as artificial intelligence, sensors and data analysis through the IoT, Terna and ENEA will work together to develop models and tools for the prevention and management of emergencies that affect infrastructures: these "capital light” solutions work in synergy with the development of the grid to ensure maximum effectiveness in managing potentially critical situations linked to extreme weather, air pollution and geological events.

In Italy photovoltaics starts to grow again despite the COVID-19 crisis: in the first half of this year new installations have increased by 12% compared to the same period of 2019, with an estimated newly installed capacity throughout 2020 of approximately 0.8 GW. Moreover, in the period 2021-2022, photovoltaics will lead the expansion of all renewables also thanks to fiscal incentives, including the super-bonus 110%, as highlighted in the report 'Renewables 2020' by the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Generating electricity and heat from waste and scraps more efficiently and cheaply thanks to a state-of-the-art system for biomass, residues and wastewater gasification patented by the ENEA Bioenergy, Biorefinery and Green Chemistry Division.
The project was designed based on the expertise acquired over the years on the various gasification technologies, particularly the so-called downdraft.
