ENEA at Italy-Saudi Arabia Mixed Commission meeting

22/12/2017

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation recently hosted the Italy-Saudi Arabia Mixed Commission meeting. ENEA was represented by Marcello Peronaci, Department of Sustainability, who illustrated the Agency’s competencies, with particular focus on the environment.

During the preparatory meeting, the latest draft of the Agreed Minute proposed by the Saudi delegation was examined with the representative to the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In such a document a new paragraph was included on the possible signature of a Memorandum of Understanding with ENEA in order to benefit from the Agency’s expertise in the fields of research, development and innovation.

Whilst editing the text of interest for ENEA, the parties agreed on the non-binding nature of the document and, in case of agreed clearance, no correction to the text proposed by the Saudi party will be necessary.

The Saudi initiative follows the technical meeting between a Saudi delegation and ENEA experts held at ENEA headquarters in November. ENEA’s attendees were the above-mentioned Marcello Peronaci, Isabella Mazziotti (International Relations), Gian Piero Celata and Simona De Iuliis (Energies Technologies Dept.); the Saudi delegation was headed by Prince Turki Bin Mohammed, Director of the International Relations Department and three officials from the Saudi Ministries of Foreign Affairs, one official from the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Agriculture and Electricity.
