The BRICKS Project, for the professional qualification of workers in the building sector, has recently started

6/7/2015

A single qualification system for the workers of the building sector to overcome regional differences: this is the objective of the BRICKS Project (Building Refurbishment with Increased Competences, Knowledge and Skills) coordinated by ENEA, that has started in the last few months.

The project sees the participation of 14 Regions, 15 national organisms such as Unioncamere, ISNOVA, RENAEL, CasaClima, CTI, some provinces and other associated partners representing workers and companies.

Energy renovation of buildings is a priority action, given the fact that they account for 40% of the European energy consumption. The implementation of a national system of  certification of training and competences is therefore fundamental, as well as the updating of the professional knowledge of the workers of the building sector.

“The project has been designed to address some faults in the professional training system: it’s enough to think that in our country a significant number of workers has never attended formal training courses and that in the building sector there are 144 different profiles with significant differences among regions - Anna Moreno, of the ENEA Energy Efficiency Unity and Project Coordinator, points out.

BRICKS gives us the opportunity to lay the foundations for the diffusion of a national qualification model and a voluntary system of skill certification that will enable us to align to and compete with the most advanced Europe”.

Within the BRICKS Project four different professional profiles have been defined: building envelop operators, low enthalpy geothermal energy operators, on site trainers and classroom trainers.

The latter two are considered of fundamental importance for the alignment of the regional training systems to the European standards.

The Regions are currently studying the possibility of including these professional profiles in their job listing.

A voluntary system for a “quality mark”, to offer companies recognition for employing qualified professionals, will be created.

It will therefore be possible to guarantee that the energy improvement actions or the use of renewables in buildings are done in accordance with best practice in order to reach the objectives and the savings expected.
