Smart city: Ravenna, a new "digital" life for the Darsena

17/10/2019

Digital regeneration of the Darsena of Ravenna with the creation of a large technological platform that collects and manages data on traffic, environmental pollution and energy consumption of street lamps, buildings and individual dwellings. This is the objective of the project DARE,[1], with which the Municipality of Ravenna obtained one of the highest funding (over 5 million euro) at the 4th European call for tenders "Urban Innovative Action", ranking among the top 20 cities out of 176.

ENEA will work with the Municipality of Ravenna to design the first digital infrastructure of the city in the port-industrial area, where live currently about 20 thousand people live, which is interested by  . Environmental, housing and tourist regeneration actions will be conducted following  three main lines of action:

creating a digital environment to manage data  from a capillary network of sensors on the territory;

innovating the role of the PA, which will have to systematize public policies, business opportunities and citizens' needs;

spreading a digital culture, increasingly connected to tourism, work, health, safety and quality of life of the territory.

"This project will adopt a collaborative approach, on which the entire technological infrastructure is based. Citizens will be involved through the use of a portal, apps, information totems, interactive benches, but also events and workshops, to interact directly with the municipal administration, making it possible to offer new services to citizens and plan shared urban regeneration interventions, to make the area attractive to residents, tourists and investors.

Citizens, therefore, will not only be the recipients but the makers of the renovation of their territory. And, once achieved this goal, we will work to make these urban regeneration strategies a model replicable throughout Ravenna and other European cities, ”Paola Clerici Maestosi, researcher at the Smart Energy Division and project manager for ENEA, explained.

In addition to ENEA and the Municipality of Ravenna, Cineca, Chia Lab srl, Alma mater studiorum - University of Bologna, European Crowdfunding Network AISBL, Studiomapp, CIFLA - Foundation Flaminia Innovation Center, BiPart Social enterprise, CNA, CertiMaC Soc Cons and Legacoop Romagna also take part in the project.
