Circular economy: Products and services life cycle database launched for companies and PAs

27/5/2021

An Italian database on products and services life cycles (LCA - Life Cycle Assessment) available to public administrations, trade associations and companies facing the challenges posed by the new Action Plan for the circular economy. This is the objective of the project Arcadia [1], developed by ENEA and funded by the national program PON Governance and Institutional Capacity 2014-2020.

"We have built a network of relationships with PAs, trade associations, companies, certifying bodies, research bodies, universities and research institutions to create a high-quality LCA database illustrative of the Italian productive fabric", pointed out Simona Scalbi, researcher at the ENEA Department of Sustainability of Productive and Territorial Systems and scientific project coordinator.

Arcadia is part of the broader project “Mettiamoci in RIGA – Rafforzamento Integrato Governance Ambientale”, coordinated by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, which contributed significantly to identifying 15 priority national supply chains based on indicators such as: environmental impact, productivity, the brand “Made Green in Italy”, public procurement, Green Public Procurement (GPP) [2] and Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM).

"Arcadia's first public initiative was addressed to the building sector, strategic for Green Public Procurement. In the future, we hope that more and more companies will add to the development of the database, particularly in the sectors of ornamental stones, recycled and natural aggregates, cement, concrete, windows and doors, demolition and recycling plants ", Simona Scalbi concluded.
