23/6/2016

ENEA and APRUE, the Algerian agency for energy efficiency, signed a Memorandum of Understanding recently in Algiers in the presence of the Italian Ambassador in Algeria, Michele Giacomelli, and the Secretary General of the Algerian Ministry of Energy, Ahmed Messili.

The agreement aims at supporting the development of cooperation and the exchange of information between the agencies in energy efficiency and sustainable development. After having set the priorities of the collaboration, the appropriate financial instruments to implement concrete actions will be identified. The “Memorandum of Understanding” was signed by Roberto Moneta, Head of ENEA’s Unit for Energy Efficiency, and Mohamed Salah BOUZERIBA, Director General of APRUE.

The signing of the agreement took place during the 4th MEDENER International Conference “Accelerating the Energy Transition in the Mediterranean Region: towards a new sustainable energy mix”, which was attended by more than 150 participants and focused on the role of renewable energies, energy efficiency and natural gas.

MEDENER is the Mediterranean Association of the National Agencies for Energy Conservation, for energy efficiency and the development of renewable energy sources. It brings together 12 national agencies from the northern and southern banks of the Mediterranean. ENEA, representing Italy, is one of the founding members of the association. MEDENER’s approach to the energy transition complies with the three Euro-Mediterranean Platforms on natural gas, Regional Energy Market (REM) and renewable energy and energy efficiency (REEE), which aim to deepen energy cooperation among the European Union and South and East Mediterranean countries.
