Five ENEA’s experts selected by UNEP as Contributors to the preparation of the GEO6

30/3/2015

Five ENEA experts have been appointed by UNEP (The United Nations Environment Programme) as Contributors to the preparation of the GEO6 (the sixth edition of the Global Environment Outlook).

In the GEO-6 framework, UNEP has appointed, respectively, Andrea Sonnino as Global Contributor for Food Security, Grazia Barbieri and Laura Cutaia as Regional Contributors for the Regional Assessment for Europe, Giovanna Armiento as Regional Contributor for Chemicals and Waste, and Claudia Brunori as Regional Contributor for Sustainable Consumption and Production.

The GEO is a consultative and participatory process that builds capacity for conducting integrated environmental assessments and reporting on the state, trends and outlooks of the environment; GEO is also a series of products that informs environmental decision-making and aims to facilitate the interaction between science and policy.

The upcoming GEO-6, expecting to be launched in mid-2017, will build upon regional assessment processes to create a comprehensive picture of the environmental factors contributing to human well-being, accompanied by an analysis of policies leading to greater attainment of global environmental objectives..

UNEP has already produced five GEO reports, which have analyzed environmental state and trends at the global and regional scales, described plausible outlooks for various time frames and formulated policy options.

UNEP is the leading global environmental authority within the United Nations’ system that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
