HiZEV, the electric supercar made in ENEA on show in Rome E-Prix

19/4/2018

During the recent first Formula E grand prix in Rome, the electric sports supercar HiZEV (HIgh performance Zero Emission Vehicle) was displayed at the Rome Convention Center “La Nuvola”. Developed by a consortium led by ENEA, Picchio Spa and Pomos, HiZEV is a four-wheel drive car with a 150 electric front drive, a rear end with two 100 kW engines, and an electronic differential based on vector control. The total 350kW power is even higher than the racing vehicles at the Rome Grand Prix. The storage system, made up of high-power lithium-ion cells with 180 km of autonomy and centrally located in the rear, was disegned at the Laboratory of Systems and Technologies for Mobility and Storage of the ENEA Casaccia Research Center (Rome).

The powertrain system, developed by Picchio for uphill races, provides hypercar performances: in particular, an estimated acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h within 3 and 3.5 seconds, able to reach 300 km/hour. Thanks to these characteristics, the electric car HIZEV soon could be the first high-performance electric car in Italy to take part in sports events such as uphill and track races.
