Industry: Confindustria-AISEM award to four most innovative Italian SMEs

Four SMEs from across  Italy received the "Confindustria-AISEM Innovation Award" during the 20th edition of the National Conference of the Italian Sensors and Microsystems Association (AISEM), organized by ENEA, University of Naples "Federico II" and Confindustria Campania.

The SMEs awarded are: Let's - Webearable Solutions srl (L'Aquila, Abruzzo) for  Let's T-Shirt (a technology turning technical-sports clothing items of textile origin into wearable devices for detection and monitoring of bio-vital parameters); Scent srl (Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna) for Scent A1 (a device capable of identifying the difference between exhalations produced from stool samples of healthy individuals from those of subjects suffering from colorectal cancer (advanced adenomas and tumors)); Officina Elettronica SPA, s.r.l. (Naples, Campania) for K-Place (a sensor to detect occupied lay-by, ,vehicles counter with their direction); Ecobioservices and Researches srl (Sesto Fiorentino, Tuscany) for BioPARD - Pesticide Analytical Remote Detector (kit based on single-use sensors associated with a remote control electrochemical detector for the rapid determination of pesticides in food, water and soil samples).

"In most cases, those are companies working in the wellness sector with a direct impact on the ability to positively change people's lives, as part of a homogeneous market, from the North and South of Italy, which is growing at a rate of 30% per year and that in 2017 reached a 5 billion euro turnover ", Girolamo Di Francia, head of the ENEA Laboratory  Photovoltaic and Sensor Systems and Applications  at the Portici Research Center, explained.

All the 14 companies nominated for the award, from Trentino to Sicily, selected by the members of the steering committee of  the AISEM, were able to illustrate their product during the award ceremony, which took place in the presence, among others, of Raffaele Velotta , of the spin-off commission of the "Federico II" University, of the President of the young entrepreneurs of Confindustria Campania, Francesco Giuseppe Palumbo, of the Head of the Innovation and Competitiveness Area of Invitalia, Luigi Gallo, and the regional councilor for Internationalization, Startup and Innovation, Valeria Fascione. AISEM is an academic association established in 1990 that brings together ENEA, CNR and several national universities and has been operating for about 30 years in the sector known as the "Internet of Things" (IoT).
