ENEA magazine “Energy, the Environment and Innovation” latest issue highlights include circular economy, green jobs,  carbon footprint. Titled  “€conomies’, its focus is to launch a debate on the relationship between the economy and the environment. The interview to Ignazio Musu, professor emeritus of political economy at the Venice University Cà Foscari and Vice President of the European Association of Environmental and Resource economists”, retraces the steps of this stormy relationship, reflected both on the business community and the political world.

The section Focus contains authoritative articles on its distinctive features, ranging from economic underestimation of the environmental factor to overcoming the anthropocentric vision of nature. In over 170 pages, ‘€conomies’ features contributions from economists and researchers in all areas, dealing with many aspects, such as the interdependence between population growth and the state of the environment;

The system ETS (Emission Trading System), concerning the share of polluting emissions and the Italian manufacturing industry; the evaluation of costs for a green conversion of the national industry; industrial symbiosis as an eco-innovative approach favouring the collaboration and exchange among different industries, as proven by the case of the Industrial Development Area of Rieti-Cittàducale in Lazio;  agriculture and sustainable tourism; energy efficiency, increasingly deemed as hidden fuel of the economy and source of saving for Italian families.

Finally, the environment as coworking, in the broadest sense of the term, as a community centered on expanding the skills and competences of people, and industry 4.0 for the technological development of factories thanks to the measures implemented by the Government for the diffusion of automation and digital technologies and the interconnection of productive processes.

The international sector opens with a commentary on the necessity, or even the obligation for our Country to comply with the requirements set out by the European Union on greenhouse gas emissions and the opportunity provided by Horizon 2020 of obtaining funding for the theme “Energy”, for which our Country has been allocated 175 million euro, approximately 9.5% of the total budget.

“New necessities” emerge from the commentaries, such as a low-carbon economic growth, on which Massimo Beccarello, Director of Energy at Confindustria and Vincenzo Colla,  national confederal secretary of the CGIL both agree in the section “Punto & Contropunto”. In the section “Spazio Aperto”, we suggest the article about strenghtening the role of women in the clean energy sector, at the focus of the international event organized by ENEA at its Rome’s headquarters.
