Strengthening Italy-Cuba cooperation on the environment and climate change mitigation
24/5/2018
The Cuban Minister of Science Technology and Environment, Elba Rosa Pérez Montoya, visited the ENEA Headquarters in Rome, warmly welcomed by President Federico Testa.
The meeting originated from a collaboration between ENEA Sustainability Department and the Center for Environmental Studies of CIENFUEGOS (Cuba) to improve the capacity of the Republic of Cuba in the application of technologies aimed at reducing the risk of vulnerability and at climate change mitigation assessments of Cuban marine ecosystems using innovative technologies and tools.
The activities take place in the framework of the bilateral agreement signed between the Italian Ministry of the Environment and the Cuban Ministry of Science Technology and Environment, following a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of vulnerability to climate change, risk management, adaptation and mitigation.
This project aims to improve the capacity of the Republic of Cuba in the application of advanced technologies for habitat mapping through remote sensing, monitoring, surveillance and spatial planning in marine and coastal systems, and to improve availability and feasibility assessments of the use of energy from the sea.
