Safe School 4.0: The app by ENEA that measures energy consumption and seismic vulnerability of school buildings

SafeSchool 4.0, the app for smartphones and tablets which measures energy consumptions and seismic vulnerability of school buildings-simply and at affordable costs- is freely downloadable from App Store and Google Play.  Developed by ENEA experts with the aim of supporting technicians and energy auditors in  carrying out energy and structural surveys of school buildings, SafeSchool 4.0 allows to obtain an initial assessment for designing energy efficiency and safety measures.

In order to provide the most accurate reliability and safety, its use is permitted only to licensed technicians (appraisers, building surveyors, architects and engineers) who work in the school building sector ^[1]. It is expected that in the absence of specialized data or information it’s impossible to obtain any outcome.

By correctly entering information in the appropriate sections it will be possible to obtain a report of the surveys including photos; the energy class and the measures required to improve its performance; the elements of structural vulnerability and the actions required to improve the safety of the building; a file containing all the information entered by technicians.

In order to identify the areas requiring major interventions, ENEA is developing an IT platform for strategically planning a single recovery project of existing buildings, also envisaging a structural improvement based on different territorial, environmental and climate issues.

The application compares actual energy consumptions with the energy needs of reference for school buildings, determining an energy class for each building (good/sufficient/insufficient) for both heating and electricity consumption.

SafeSchool 4.0 is one of the ENEA’s initiatives  for Italia in Classe A, the first three-year National Energy Efficiency Campaign promoted by the Ministry of the Economic Development and implemented by ENEA.

The initiative  implements Art. 13 of Legislative Decree No. 102/2014 and is addressed to the P.A., SMEs and banks as well as families and students.  The main ojective of the Campaign is  conveying the importance of energy saving and energy efficiency and provide tools and opportunities to  implement them.
