Water’s secrets revealed by a camera

22/6/2015

ENEA has patented a camera “reading” pollutants in wastewater

ENEA, together with the civil engineering firm “ET Engineering”,  has patented a device allowing to assess the colors of wastewater, detecting chromatic variations  through special cameras.

Specifically, the device can “read” the colors present in industrial and dairy wastewater, detecting pollutants and estimating their quantities and could advantageously be employed  for monitoring water bodies, domestic and/or industrial and dyeing  wastewater, etc.

It can obtain real - time data on the liquid to be analyzed, allowing to take prompt corrective action.

It can be used with both hot and cold  aqueous solutions, is highly resistant to chemical corrosion and can be made of  different materials according to the operative conditions and the process to monitor (aluminum, stainless steel, PVC etc).

The device is highly versatile and can be interfaced with other  automatic control systems (PLC, acquisition cards, dedicated controllers etc.)

This technology could have future applications in the analysis of drinking water and be utilized in the public health chemical laboratories.
