Innovation: From ENEA advanced materials and 3D printing for hi-tech dental prostheses

Researchers at the ENEA Materials Technologies Laboratory have developed an innovative process to create high quality dental prostheses with 3D printing at lower costs than the standard techniques. The process is based on "Digital Light Processing" (DLP) which uses Additive Manufacturing technologies to make dental prosthesis components by polymerizing layers of photosensitive liquid resin added with ceramic powder. The activities were carried out as part of the project PRODE, jointly with the CNA of Ferrara and the network of dental technicians at Identitaliagroup.

Marine energy: Mediterranean, new ENEA models for hi-resolution waves and tides forecasts

Estimating sea energy production thanks to high resolution forecasts of waves and tides of the Mediterranean. ENEA has developed MITO, a model of water circulation forecasting temperature, salinity and speed of sea currents with a spatial detail ranging from 2 km to a few hundred meters as in the case of the straits of Gibraltar, the Dardanelles and the Bosphorus. As for waves, a forecasting system – Wawes - guaranteeing a resolution of up to 800 meters in marine and coastal areas with high energy potential was created. Both utilize the ENEA supercomputer "CRESCO6, performing 1.4 million billion operations per second.
